**  SOLD  **

An important and rare Antique Australian Cedar Dining Suite, comprising a large 6 leg Australian Cedar Banquet Table with 6 leaves (5 original,1 later replacement) made by Emilio Zuccani of George St, Sydney, together with a matching set of 12 Australian Cedar Dining Chairs all with mostly original upholstery and most chairs also carrying the Zuccani label. The Zuccani label to the underside of the table, whilst incomplete, is identifiable as a Zuccani label when compared to the chair labels. The table features turned and fluted legs, a large imported English extension screw mechanism, and when fully extended reaches almost 16 feet. The table surface, only, has been repolished.

It is extremely rare to find an Australian Cedar Dining Suite from this period with chairs that match the table. It is also very rare to find a matching set of 12 Australian cedar chairs of this quality. From my discussions with the owner, the original set comprised 16 chairs, 4 of which are now missing. The suite has excellent provenance with known history, having had only 3 previous owners (all related to Samuel Clift). The dining suite was originally part of the furnishings of "Roseneath", a Georgian mansion in East Maitland, NSW.

This suite is equal to the finest Dining Suites made in the Australian Colonies at the time and would be suitable for the furnishing of many of the most significant Australian historic houses.

Length of table when closed is 172cm.
