If you can't make it into the shop, we can offer live video inspections of our antiques using Skype video during our business hours. You will need to have Skype installed on your computer, smartphone or tablet. Please ring or email first to make a time - when we are not busy with clients in the shop. You can ask questions as you view the piece or pieces.

We send many pieces of furniture to all states of Australia and overseas. Our aim is to make things a bit more personal for those of you who prefer to inspect in person.  

We use very experienced carriers for all our interstate and intrastate deliveries.

We have been so busy buying & selling lately that the web site has been a bit neglected. My apologies if you are one of our regulars keeping an eye out for something.

We have recently added a rare Andrew Lenehan Extension Dining Table made between 1855 & 1857 to our collection of Australian antiques.

We believe you will find more 19th Century Australian furniture which is all genuinely for sale here at The Merchant of Welby, than you will see anywhere else in Australia! If there is another store carrying as large a quantity of Aussie antiques, we certainly have not heard about it!

We are pleased to announce that we have a number of very good quality Colonial Australian Antiques coming in soon. We also have some from the latter half of the 19th century. We have some wonderful colonial cedar wardrobes, a cedar secretaire, a colonial cedar work table, another cedar extension dining table, a mid 19th century cedar library table and a very good cedar armchair all arriving within the next month or so. Keep an eye on the website for pictures.

Some of the other good pieces coming in, include a rare narrow australian cedar bookcase, a very good quality large Victorian mahogany 10 drawer Wellington chest and an interesting Arts & Crafts cedar hallseat.

The Australasian Shelley Collectors Club is holding its 2009 Annual Fair & Exhibition at the Mittagong RSL Club, Old Hume Hwy, Mittagong in the Southern Highlands of NSW and will be open to the public. It will include displays of members' special pieces and sales tables.

The fair starts with a Cocktail & Preview Night on Friday, 23rd October 6pm to 7.30pm. Booked ticket admission only @ $15 per person, available from Margaret Kent (ph 02 4751 4277) or the Mittagong Antiques Centre.

We have some great 19th Century Aussie Cedar desks coming in, in the next few weeks. Age-wise they range from 1850 to 1890.

There is a very nice 1850's double pedestal desk, a large 1860's partners desk, (both with great original finishes) and 2 x 5 drawer desks. They are all very attractive pieces of furniture as well as being functional & useful as computer desks.

We have just added another outstanding large 4 Door Cedar Library Bookcase to our shop stock. Dated Circa 1874, this one is in wonderful original condition with all its original cedar shelves, original finish, etc. It's a little bigger than the other one we added not long ago.

All our furniture is presented ready for use - ready for you & your friends to admire it in your home.

We fix drawer runners (replacing cedar with cedar where necessary), door hinges, cracks or splits. We endeavour to keep every piece as original as possible. All repairs are carried out on site using traditional methods.

We have just added a long, narrow old Aussie cedar farmhouse table into stock. Full of character showing many signs of old age (made about 1880-90).

Will seat 14 people. (337cm x 76cm)

We are expecting 2 mid 19th Century Cedar 2 door Presses by Andrew Lenehan as well as a mid 19th Century Cedar Bookcase. All with 19th Century patina, all dated to about 1850.

The Lenehan wardrobes are of a very similar style & would go beautifully together in the same room.

All pieces should be in store within the next few weeks.

Some great new (very old!) items have just arrived in stock. They include an early Colonial cedar Wardrobe (Circa 1835), a superb quality 8 piece Beard Watson Queen Anne Style Dining Suite, a very rare set of 7 19th century graduated brass measuring jugs.

Pictures will be added in the near future. 

Our carpark has just been re-sealed with asphalt. We have parking for about 12 cars right outside the door!!

Not only have we got the best range of genuine antique Aussie Cedar Furniture, but we've also got super convenient car parking.

The Furniture History Society of Australasia and the Friends of The National Museum of Australia are jointly organising this. Happening at the NATIONAL MUSEUM OF AUSTRALIA, CANBERRA on the weekend of MARCH 24-25 2007. It promises to be a very interesting event for all those interested in antique furniture, especially colonial Australian furniture.

We have a recently purchased a very rare 9 piece set of miniature ivory dolls furniture. All very intricately carved & in beautiful original condition, from the late 19th century. Stock PHOTOS will be posted in the next week or so.

As mentioned previously, 3 x cedar wine tables, 1 cedar blanket box and a combination sewing / writing table came in today.

All antique furniture at The Merchant of Welby has been inspected, cleaned & restored if necessary in our workshop. Great care is used to preserve original finishes where possible & carry out minimal restoration ensuring all drawers, doors & other moving parts work as they should. We take pride in playing a small part in the preservation of many wonderful objects whilst we are the temporary custodians of these historical pieces.

In the next few weeks, we will have in stock a large Cedar 4 Poster Bed, a big Cedar Partners Desk, 2 x Cedar sideboards, an open Blackwood Bookcase & some other interesting small pieces of furniture.

We are eagerly awaiting the arrival of a 3 Tier Aussie Cedar Dumbwaiter by Andrew Lenehan. Due in about 3 weeks it has lovely original finish, Lenehan label for 1869-71 under top shelf.

We have just received a 19th Century Australian Cedat Bookcase of superb quality. Features beautifully figured cedar to door surrounds as well as the lower door panels. All construction details are best practise, with quality hardware. Original revived finish.

We have just added a small collection of Early 20th Century Australian Glass to our cabinets. Some pieces feature a small map of Australia.

We are expecting some Cedar Desks (2-5 drawer on turned legs) in soon. We hope before Christmas or early in the new year.

We have just added a magnificent 4 Door Breakfront Cedar Bookcase, as well as an early Cedar 3 Door Sideboard, an 8-10 Seat Cedar Dining Table to our Shop Stock. The Bookcase has great patina & original finish, unsigned but almost certainly by John Hill Jnr. We hope to post pictures in the next few days.
